Tennis Coaching

The Academy delivers a wide-ranging number of coaching services that aims to provide our clients with a comprehensive programme of tennis activities throughout the year.  There are clear entry points for adults and children regardless of their standard as well as a clear pathway of progression through our programme.

Junior (5-18yrs):

We use a 'LEVELS' system that takes into account players age and standard giving parents a guide as to how we place players within the programme and what they need to do to progress to the next level.  Our levels run from 1-5.

We have a separate adult 'LETTER RATING' system which allows us to place adult players into the right groups and events.  Our letter rating system runs from 'A' for a beginner player to 'I' which is a top county/national player.

Tiny Tots (2-3.5yrs)

Mini Tennis is split into four stages, with Tiny Tots being the first. For Children aged 2-3.5 years, this phase teaches children how to enjoy the game through a series of fun activities with the aim of improving their balance, co-ordination, agility, movement, and racket and ball skills. Mini Tots (3.5-4.5yrs)

Mini Tots is a great follow on from Tiny Tots and the perfect transition to Mini Tennis Red.  The session content is similar to Tiny Toys but the sessions take place alongside the Mini Tennis Red sessions so the children get used to the after school and weekend sessions they will transition to once they start school.  Children will continue to develop their love for the game through a series of fun activities with the aim of improving their balance, co-ordination, agility, movement, and racket and ball skills. Read more and watch the LTA video here.

Mini Tennis Red (5-8yrs)

Mini Tennis Red is for players aged 5-8 years old. Players learn to serve, rally and score with a slow ball, as well as learning the movement and co-ordination skills needed for tennis. Players are encouraged to play fun competitions in teams and as individuals, with short matches using tie-break scoring.

Mini Tennis Orange (8-9yrs)

Mini Tennis Orange is a great way for players to continue their progress from Mini Tennis Red and is for players aged 8 and 9. Players develop a rounded game learning a range of techniques and tactics. Courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts. There are team and individual competitions with matches using tie-break scoring.

Mini Tennis Green (9-10yrs)

This is for 10-year-olds who are ready to test their skills on a full-size court. Our approach to helping children into the sport makes it far easier for them to develop their skills and progress with their tennis.

Junior Full Ball (11-18yrs)

Our junior full ball programme continues a player development to a full yellow ball and full court.  Players continue to work on their technical skills and start to develop a more detailed understanding of tactical, physical and mental skill development.  Scoring systems follow a more traditional route and players are encouraged to work towards representing themselves or the club in introductory and more advanced individual or team competitions.  Our full ball age groups are split into U12, 12-14 and 14+ age brackets

Adult Coaching

We run a comprehensive daytime and evening adult coaching programme.  Using our 'letter club rating system' we are able to group players of a similar standard together to help us deliver the right coaching for the players needs.

Holiday Camps

The Academy runs both Easter and Summer holiday tennis camps.  The dates run in line with Sheffield City Council School holiday times.  We offer a range of booking options to suit parents, from full day/full week (25 hours) to 1 day morning or afternoon only bookings (2 hours).  We also run extended days which run from 9-4pm.
